Head Coach - Rob List
No one knows better what the Tellico Village Swim Team members are capable of than Rob List. Coach Rob began as Head Coach for our swim team during the 2008 Summer season.
By the age of 7, he was competitively swimming and quickly developed a true love for the sport. For 3 consecutive years, Coach Rob swam for Bearden High School. Of his many accomplishments, Coach’s most notable were his receipt of the Most Inspirational Performance award in 2006 and 2007, being named the 2007 Hardest Worker, and qualifying for the 2007 State High School Championship Meet in the 100 Yard Backstroke, 100 Yard Freestyle, and 200 Yard Individual Medley events.
Coach is no stranger to hard work and determination. Amazingly, he reduced his previous best time in the 500 Yard Freestyle event by a whopping 15 seconds while recovering from a bout of mononucleosis! A solid role model, Coach Rob is pursuing his college education at the University of Tennessee-Martin, where he is majoring in biology and continuing his personal avocation as a swimmer.
Assistant Coach - Celia Harrison
Coach Celia became affiliated with the Tellico Village Swim Team in 2004 first as a parent, then as stroke and turn judge, and finally as an assistant coach. She encouraged her 5 children to be accomplished swimmers from the age of toddlers for safety reasons. It just naturally followed that they would become competitive swimmers as their love of the water grew. “Swimming is an excellent sport for children,” says Coach Celia. “Children are naturally attracted to water and love to move through the water. We teach our swimmers the four competitive strokes and then work on techniques to increase their speed and endurance. It is exciting and amazing to watch each child’s progress over the summer.” It is not unusual to see Coach Celia walking along the side of the pool offering encouragement to a child, but don’t be surprised to suddenly see her in the pool helping a child either. “I like to get in the water just as much as the children,” she laughs.
When Coach Celia is not poolside, she may be on a soccer field somewhere. She coaches and referees soccer as well. “I love to understand as much about a sport that my child participates in as I can. One of the best ways to do this is to become a volunteer coach or referee. In swimming, the best way to learn is to train as a stroke and turn judge and then to spend hours watching the children swim (coach). I also have learned a lot by listening to other coaches and by watching DVDs from USA Swimming.”
